Comets sweep cluster meet

Abington Heights defeated Valley View, 24-35, Scranton Prep, 23-34, Holy Cross, 25-33, and North Pocono, 25-31, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. Dan Uhranowsky placed fourth overall in 17:38, Kyle Burke finished ninth in 17:57, Jack Malone was 12th in 18:27, Chase Yarns placed 13th in 18:31, Nathan Kizer finished 14th in 18:34 and Adam Traweek was 18th in 18:54.

Cavs win two matches in meet

Scranton Prep defeated Holy Cross, 24-35, and Valley View, 23-36, but lost to Abington Heights, 34-23, and North Pocono, 30-27, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. Pat Cosgrove placed fifth overall in 17:44, A.J. Sluko finished sixth in 17:52, Tommy Fitzgerald was 16th in 18:39, Tarquin McGurrin placed 19th in 18:55 and Kerry Lyons finished 20th in 18:59.

Lions win one match in meet

Lackawanna Trail defeated Blue Ridge, 23-34, but lost to Elk Lake, 40-19, Montrose, 46-17, Lakeland, 35-22, and Mountain View, 30-27, in a Lackawanna League meet on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Factoryville. Matt Kinback finished seventh in 18:23 for Trail.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets win two matches

Abington Heights defeated North Pocono, 19-42, and Valley View, 15-50, but fell to Scranton Prep, 29-26, and Holy Cross, 27-28, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. Katie Dammer placed second in 19:29, Alex Scheuermann finished seventh in 20:20, Meghan Beahan was ninth in 20:25, Claire Traweek placed 13th in 20:50, Carly Danoski finished 15th in 21:25, Annie Wesolowski was 19th in 22:14 and Maddie Show placed 20th in 22:23.

Lady Lions runner sets record

Lackawanna Trail’s Tori James set a school record by completing the 2-mile course in Factoryville in 13:02 to win the junior varsity race. In the varsity meet, Ashleigh Clarke placed eighth in 22:25 and Amanda Kinback finished 13th in 24:39.

Classics sweep four matches

Scranton Prep defeated North Pocono, 19-42, Abington Heights, 26-29, Valley View, 15-45, and Holy Cross, 27-28, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. Erin Feeney placed first in 19:18, Kate Reilly finished eighth in 20:24, Mia Bellucci was 10th in 20:30, Adiya Golden placed 11th in 20:43, Anna Brier finished 12th in 20:46 and Kate Walsh was 17th in 21:36.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Lions shut out Lady Mohawks

Lackawanna Trail defeated Meyers, 3-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Factoryville. Courtney Dwyer scored two goals and Lauren Beemer added another for Trail. Elizabeth Rodenbach had two assists and Sarah Weisenfluh made four saves.

Lady Royals top Lady Comets

Holy Redeemer downed Abington Heights, 6-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in South Abington Township. Ashley Mercado scored the Lady Comets goal.

Lady Lions edge Lady Rangers

Lackawanna Trail defeated Northwest Area, 2-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Monday, Oct. 5 in Shickshinny. Madison Lee and Lauren Baldwin scored goals for the Lady Lions. Courtney Dwyer added an assist and Sarah Weisenfluh made eight saves.

FOOTBALL

Cavaliers hold off Trojans

Scranton Prep defeated North Pocono, 13-6, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 game on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Scranton. Prep quarterback Jake Ryan threw touchdown passes, an 11-yarder to Kevin Holmes and a 5-yarder to Chris O’Brien.

Comets top Buckhorns

Abington Heights defeated Wallenpaupack, 5 1/2 – 3 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Clarks Summit. Luke Fayocavitz, Troy Kelleher and Sahas Chandragiri had individual wins for the Comets. Sam MacGregor played to a split. The teams of MacGregor-Fayocavitz and Matt Mecca-Chandragiri won in better-ball play.

Cavs eliminated Hornets

Scranton Prep defeated Honesdale, 9-0, in the first round of the Lackawanna League Big School Division playoffs on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Lake Ariel. Sebastian Cimoch, Tyler Marchese, Jack Habeeb, Tom Keegan, Marco Nieto and Frank Adamo had individual wins. The teams of Cimoch-Marchese, Habeeb-Keegan and Nieto-Adamo won in better-ball play.

Comets defeat Cougars

Abington Heights defeated Valley View, 8-1, in a Lackawanna League Big School semifinal match on Friday, Oct. 2 in Clarks Summit. Luke Fayocavitz, Andrew Jalowiec, Troy Kelleher, Sahas Chandragiri and Matt Mecca won individual matches. The teams of Fayocavitz-Sam MacGregor, Jalowiec-Kelleher and Chandragiri-Mecca won in better-ball competition.

Cavaliers fall to Buckhorns

Wallenpaupack downed Scranton Prep, 6-3, in a Lackawanna League Big School match on Friday, Oct. 2 in Hawley. Frank Adamo won an individual match for Prep. Sebastian Cimoch and Tom Keegan split their matches. Tyler Marchese-Cimoch and Jack Habeeb-Keegan split better-ball matches for the Cavs.

GIRLS GOLF

Classics take team golf title

Scranton Prep, with a score of 343, won the District 2 Class 2A Team Championship on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Lake Ariel. Reilly Ruane and Lauren Golden led Prep by each shooting an 82. Kristen Davis carded an 87 and Alex Fitzsimmons shot a 92.

Comets top Trojans

Abington Heights downed North Pocono, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Covington Township. Jonathan Rickwood and Brooks Houck each scored a goal for the Comets. North Pocono also scored an own goal. Spencer Atkins had two assists for the Comets. Goalkeeper Jackson Danzig made five saves.

Cavaliers crush Hornets

Scranton Prep defeated Honesdale, 5-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Honesdale. Kenny Kincel scored two goals and Cullen Myers, Angelo Terrana and Justin Hammert each scored one for Prep. Justin Hammert provided two assists and Mario Rotell had one. Blake Hammert made seven saves.

Lady Comets shut out Lady Trojans

Abington Heights defeated North Pocono, 6-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Clarks Summit. Paige Morgan, Emma Henzes, Nicole Getz, Ally Christman, Emily Mahoney and Kelly Seechock scored for Abington Heights. Seechock, Christman, Tiana Yarns and Morgan added assists. Johanna Show made one save.

Classics blank Lady Hornets

Scranton Prep downed Honesdale, 6-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Scranton. Cara Griffith scored three goals and Amanda Boland, Liz Shoemaker and Lydia Lovecchio each scored one. Shoemaker had two assists and Mary Kate Caucci and Eileen Casey each had one. A.J. Hendershot and Mary Jo Dickinson each made two saves.

Abington Heights defeated Honesdale, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Oct. 5 in Honesdale. Ally Christman, Kelly Seechock and Carina Salerno scored goals for Abington Heights. Salerno added an assist and Johanna Show made one save.

Scranton Prep defeated Western Wayne, 8-2, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Oct. 5 in Lake Ariel. Cara Griffith led the Classics with four goals. Liz Shoemaker, Angelina Falcone, Jillian Paulus and Madison Ziobro each scored one. Shoemaker provided two assists and Falcone, Paulus, Cameron Price and Amanda Boland each had one. A.J. Hendershot made one save.

Classics shut out Lady Meteors

Scranton Prep defeated Montrose, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Oct. 1 in Scranton. Emily Jonsson, Maansi Malhotra and Gabi Jakubek had singles wins for Prep. The teams of Mira Patel-Tatiana Klacko and Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio won in doubles play.

Classics claim league title

Scranton Prep defeated Mid Valley, 5-0, to clinch the Lackawanna League championship on Monday, Oct. 5 in Throop. Emily Jonsson, Maansi Malhotra and Gabi Jakubek won singles matches. The teams of Tatiana Klacko-Mira Patel and Amelia Desiderio-Gaba Horchos won in doubles play.

Lady Comets blank Lady Wildcats

Abington Heights downed Western Wayne, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Oct. 5 in Lake Ariel. Caroline Mattise, Sondra Lionetti and Lauren Carroll won in singles play. The teams of Catherine Pusateri-Carolyn Hickman and Rachael Muir-Ajna Prahalad won doubles matches.

Lady Comets knock off Lady Lions

Abington Heights downed Lackawanna Trail, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League girls volleyball match on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Clarks Summit. Cassie Toth and Grace Hambrose each had five kills for the Lady Comets. Allison Melnikoff had 10 digs and 10 points for Trail.

Lady Comets topped by Lady Raiders

Blue Ridge defeated Abington Heights, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in New Milford.

Lady Eagles sweep Lady Lions

Mountain View downed Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Kingsley. Carolyn Mack had 16 points for the Lady Lions and Madisyn Peoples added seven kills.

Lady Foresters blank Lady Lions

Forest City defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Oct. 5 in Factoryville. Allison Melnikoff led Trail with 15 digs and Carolyn Mack contributed nine assists.
