BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Comets get three wins in meet

Abington Heights defeated Forest City, 15-49, Western Wayne, 15-50, and Honesdale, 21-37, in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 in Forest City. Dan Uhranowski finished fourth in 17:37 to lead the Comets. Kyle Burke placed eighth in 18:19, Jack Malone was ninth in 18:26, Adam Traweek finished 12th in 18:47, Nathan Kizer placed 14th in 18:51 and Chase Yarns was 19th in 19:07.

Cavs sweep meet

Scranton Prep defeated Mid Valley, 15-50, West Scranton, 15-50, and Scranton, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 in Scranton. Pat Cosgrove placed first in 17:20 to lead Prep. A.J. Sluko finished second in 17:40, Tommy Fitzpatrick was fifth in 17:58, Tarquin McGurrin placed sixth in 18:18, Colin Jenkins finished eighth in 18:25, Brendan Betti was ninth in 18:25, Kerry Lyons placed 10th in 18:28, Greg Bormes finished 11th in n18:41, Austin Bolus was 13th in 19:19, Shay Quinn placed 14th in 19:23, Mike DeCarli finished 15th in 19:28, Gabe Hunter was 17th in 20:21 and Ryan Sauter placed 19th in 20:34.

Trail picks up two wins

Lackawanna Trail defeated Dunmore, 26-41, and Old Forge, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 in Scott Township. Matt Kinback finished fourth in 18:38 to lead the Lions. Bobby Titus placed ninth in 19:26, Jared Klepadlo was 15th in 20:26 and Samuel Vierling finished 16th in 10:26.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets win two in meet

Abington Heights downed Western Wayne, 15-50, and Honesdale, 15-47, in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 in Forest City. Katie Dammer finished first in 19:26 to pace the Lady Comets. Alex Scheuermann placed third in 20:13, Claire Traweek was sixth in 20:55, Meghan Beahan finished eighth in 21:02, Carly Danoski placed ninth in 21:02, Annie Wesolowski was 13th in 21:47, Emma Marion finished 16th in 22:14 and Maddie Show placed 17th in 22:21.

Classics dominate meet

Scranton Prep defeated Mid Valley, Scranton and West Scranton, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 in Scranton. Adiya Golden placed fourth in 20:13 to lead the Classics. Mia Bellucci finished fifth in 20:21, Rachel Kerr was eighth in 22:01, Katie Walsh placed ninth in 22:15, Lindsay Notarianni finished 10th in 22:17, Christine Kaffka was 11th in 22:52, Eva Rine placed 12th in 22:52, Emma Walsh finished 13th in 23:21, Lauren Lanzendorfer was 18th in 25:21 and Anna Roe placed 20th in 27:31.

Lady Lions place four in top 20

Ashleigh Clarke placed first for Lackawanna Trail in 22:07 in a Lackawanna League meet Oct. 6 featuring Dunmore, Susquehanna, Old Forge, Mountain View and Riverside in Scott Township. Amanda Kinback finished fifth in 24:36, Lili Martin was 13th in 26:41 and Elizabeth Rodenbach placed 15th in 27:36.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Lions top Lady Royals

Lackawanna Trail defeated Holy Redeemer, 4-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match Oct. 6 in Factoryville. Courtney Dwyer scored three goals and Lauren Baldwin added another for Trail. Madison Lee had three assists and Lauren Beemer had one. Sarah Weisenfluh made 10 saves.

Black Knights blank Lady Lions

Lake-Lehman downed Lackawanna Trail, 10-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match Oct. 12 in Lehman Township. Sarah Weisenfluh made 24 saves for Trail.

FOOTBALL

Cavaliers rout Buckhorns

Scranton Prep downed Wallenpaupack, 35-7, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 1 game Oct. 9 in Hawley. Ricky Morgan had touchdown runs of 3 and 13 yards. Mario Giannone returned an interception 28 yards for a touchdown. Jake Ryan ran for a 1-yard touchdown and connected with Kevin Holmes for a 5-yard score.

Lions hold off Chargers

Lackawanna Trail defeated Carbondale, 15-7, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 game Oct. 9. Nathan Rolka scored on a 1-yard run and Tyler Baltrusaitis had a 17-yard touchdown for Trail. Baltrusaitis also converted a 2-point conversion and Thomas Huffsmith added an extra point.

BOYS SOCCER

Cavs shut out Wildcats

Scranton Prep downed Western Wayne, 4-0, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 6 in Scranton. Cullen Myers scored two goals and Justin Hammert and Kyle Zaboski each scored one for Prep. Henry Rusak, Myers, Justin Hammert and Alec Buttner had assists. Blake Hammert made three saves.

Comets blank Hornets

Abington Heights defeated Honesdale, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 6 in Clarks Summit. Colin Klingman scored three goals and Spencer Atkins and Luke Abdalla each scored one for the Comets. Brad Sopinski had two assists and Lorran Rodrigues added another. Jackson Danzig made four saves.

Cougars top Comets

Valley View downed Abington Heights, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 12 in Archbald. Evan Florey scored off an assist from Colin Klingman for Abington Heights. Jackson Danzig made six saves.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lady Comets eliminate Lady Crusaders

Abington Heights downed Coughlin, 5-0, in a District 2 Class 3A team championship quarterfinal match Oct. 8 in in Wilkes-Barre. Caroline Mattise, Sondra Lionetti and Lauren Carroll picked up singles wins. The doubles teams of Carolyn Hickman-Catherine Pusateri and Ajna Prahalad-Rachael Muir were victorious in doubles action.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lady Meteors top Lady Lions

Montrose defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 7 in Montrose. Allison Melnikoff led Trail with 16 digs. Madisyn People added seven assists.

Lady Lions fall to Lady Raiders

Blue Ridge downed Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League matchOct. 9 in New Milford. Allison Melnikoff led Trail with 15 digs and Madisyn Peoples had six points.
