BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Comets win one match

Abington Heights defeated Blue Ridge, 15-50, but fell to Elk Lake, 29-28, and Montrose, 41-19, a Lackawanna League meet on Oct. 13 in Dimock. Kyle Burke placed ninth in 18:17, Jack Malone finished 11th in 18:31 and Nathan Kizer was 15th in 18:52.

Cavaliers sweep meet

Scranton Prep downed Lakeland, 25-34, Lackawanna Trail, 21-40, and Mountain View, 22-37, in a Lackawanna League meet on Oct. 13 in Susquehanna. Pat Cosgrove placed first in 18:13, Tom Fitzpatrick finished seventh in 18:47, Tarquin McGurrin was 11th in 19:31, Mike DeCarli placed 16th in 20:04, Brendan Betti finished 17th in 20:04, Kerry Lyons was 18th in 20:11 and Greg Bormes placed 19th in 20:15.

Lions drop two matches in meet

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Scranton Prep, 40-21, and Holy Cross, 33-23, in a Lackawanna League meet on Oct. 13 in Susquehanna. Matt Kinback placed second in 18:25 and Bobby Titus finished 15th in 10:02 for the Lions.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets sweep meet

Abington Heights topped Elk Lake, 25-30, Montrose, 15-40, and Blue Ridge, 15-40, in a Lackawanna League meet on Oct. 13 in Dimock. Katie Dammer placed first in 19:39, Alex Scheuermann finished third in 20:06, Carly Danoski was seventh in 21:00, Claire Traweek placed eighth in 21:04, Meghan Beahan finished ninth in 21:16, Maddie Show was 15th in 22:02, Annie Wesolowski placed 16th in 22:05 and Emma Marion finished 20th in 22:18.

Classics win two matches

Scranton Prep downed Susquehanna and Mountain View, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet on Oct. 13 in Susquehanna. Adiya Golden placed fourth in 21:27, Mia Bellucci finished fifth in 21:28, Rachel Kerr was ninth in 23:42, Katie Walsh placed 10th in 24:03, Lindsay Notarianni finished 11th in 24:22, Christine Kaffka was 13th in 25:04, Eva Rine placed 17th in 27:16 and Lauren Lanzendorfer finished 19th in 27:33.

Lady Lions place three in top 20

Lackawanna Trail failed to qualify a team score but Ashleigh Clarke placed seventh in 22:43, Amanda Kinback finished 16th in 26:50 and Courtney Petrilak was 20th in 27:40 during a Lackawanna League featuring Scranton Prep, Susquehanna, Holy Cross and Mountain View on Oct. 13 in Susquehanna.

Lady Comets top Lady Trojans

Abington Heights downed Nanticoke, 2-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Oct. 14 in South Abington Township. Anna Baruffadi and Jessie Show scored the goals for the Lady Comets. Ashley Mercado and Mamie Dempsey provided assists. Olivia Mendo made nine saves.

Lady Lions blank Lady Comets

Lackawanna Trail defeated Abington Heights, 5-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Oct. 16 in South Abington Township. Courtney Dwyer scored twice and Lauren Beemer, Elizabeth Rodenbach and Lauren Baldwin each scored a goal for Trail. Jordan Laytos, Cali Fauquier and Beemer each had an assist. Sarah Weisenfluh made eight saves for Trail Olivia Mendo made five saves for Abington Heights and Ashlynn Fitzgerald stopped two shots.

Lady Warriors shut out Lady Comets

Wyoming Area downed Abington Heights, 8-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Oct. 19 in Exeter. Olivia Mendo made eight saves for Abington Heights.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lady Comets win team title

Abington Heights defeated Wallenpaupack, 3-0, to win the District 2 Class 3A team championship on Oct. 14 in Wilkes-Barre. Sondra Lionetti defeated Zoe Cykosky, 6-2, 6-3, at number two singles. Abington Heights’ number one doubles team of Carolyn Hickman-Catherine Pusateri defeated Kristen Denninston-Phoebe Cykosky, 6-0, 6-1, and the Lady Comets number two doubles team of Ajna Prahalad-Rachael Muir topped Gina Nolan-Heidi Washburn, 6-0, 6-0.

Classics claim team championship

Scranton Prep downed North Pocono, 3-0, to win the District 2 Class 2A team championship on Oct. 14 in Wilkes-Barre. Maansi Malhotra defeated Sarah Sposito, 6-1, 6-1, at number two singles.Gabi Jakubek topped Annika Trietz, 6-0, 6-0, at number three singles, and the Classics number one doubles team of Tatiana Klacko-Mira Patel topped Brooke Panek-Haley Zernek, 6-1, 6-1.

Cavs shut out Invaders

Scranton Prep defeated West Scranton, 8-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 15 in Scranton. Kyle Zaboski scored three goals, Justin Hammert and Angelo Terrana each scored two and Jimmy Lipko scored one. Cullen Myers had two assists and Kenny Kincel, Terrana and Mario Rotell each had one.

Cavs edge Cougars

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 1-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Archbald. Cullen Myers scored the only goal of the contest. Prep’s Blake Hammert made 10 saves.

Abington Heights downed Scranton, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Clarks Summit. Jonathan Rickwood scored two goals and Colin Klingman, Spencer Gilbert and Dan Muller each scored one. Klingman, Nick Skierkowski and Antonio Maletta had assists. Jackson Danzig made three saves.

Abington Heights defeated West Scranton, 8-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Scranton. Anthony Freda scored three goals, Brad Sopinski scored two and Colin Klingman and Lorran Rodrigues each scored one. Abington Heights also scored off a West Scranton own goal. Antonio Maletta had two assists and Rodrigues, Evan Phillips and Cole Madera each had one. Liam Neary stopped one shot.

Abington Heights shut out Valley View, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 13 in Clarks Summit. Tiana Yarns scored two goals and Ally Christman added another for Abington. Adrianna Green and Emma Henzes had assists. Johanna Show made one save.

Classics rout Lady Invaders

Scranton Prep defeated West Scranton, 7-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 15 in Scranton. Lydia Lovecchio scored two goals and Cara Griffith, Liz Shoemaker, Madison Ziobro, Mary Kate Caucci and Jillian Paulus each scored one. Shoemaker, Caucci and Paulus added assists. A.J. Hendershot made three saves.

Classics shut out Lady Knights

Scranton Prep downed Scranton, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Scranton. Cara Griffith scored two goals and Cara Kopicki, Kate McGrath and Cameron Price each scored one. Mary Kate Caucci and Diana Franceschelli each had an assist. A.J. Hendershot and Mary Jo Dickinson each made one save.

Abington Heights shut out West Scranton, 11-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Scranton. Kelly Seechock led Abington Heights with three goals. Ally Christman, Emily Clauss, Allyson Derry, Emily Bonsick, Emma Henzes, Ashley Mulherin, Adrianna Green and Tori Wells each scored a goal. Mackenzie Machell and Christman each had two assists, and Abby Brown and Tiana Yarns had one.

Lady Comets hold off Lady Wildcats

Abington Heights defeated Western Wayne, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 13 in Clarks Summit. Cassie Toth had four digs and Alessia Brunori added two blocks for the Lady Comets.

Lady Comets top Lady Meteors

Abington Heights downed Montrose, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 14 in Clarks Summit. Marissa Lewis led the Lady Comets with 25 assists. Celia Davis added 12 service points and Mariah Tulaney provided seven kills.

Lady Sabers shut out Lady Lions

Susquehanna defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 14 in Susquehanna. Allison Melnikoff led Trail with 17 digs. Carolyn Mack had 10 assists and Tammy Perkins added five kills for the Lady Lions.

Lady Comets sweep Lady Warriors

Abington Heights shut out Elk Lake, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 16 in Clarks Summit. Alessia Brunori led the Lady Comets with eight kills and Marissa Lewis added 17 assists.

Lady Comets blank Lady Eagles

Abington Heights downed Mountain View, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Kingsley. Cassie Toth and Grace Hambrose each had eight aces and Emily Crowley added 14 assists.

Lady Bucks top Lady Lions

Dunmore defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Oct. 19 in Factoryville. Allison Melnikoff led Lackawanna Trail with 11 digs.
