Comets split matches

Abington Heights defeated Delaware Valley, 15-48, but fell to Wallenpaupack, 39-20, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Clarks Summit. Kyle Burke placed seventh in 18:17 to lead the Comets. Jack Malone finished ninth in 18:28, Nathan Kizer was 13th in 18:44, Adam Traweek placed 14th in 18:47, Chase Yarns finished 19th in 19:17 and Ryan Siebecker was 20th in 19:19.

Prep wins two matches

Scranton Prep downed Dunmore, 20-43, and Old Forge, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Dunmore. Pat Cosgrove placed third in 17:24 to lead the Cavaliers. A.J. Sluko finished fifth in 17:48, Tom Fitzpatrick was seventh in 17:56, Tarquin McGurrin placed eighth in 18:08, Jerry Lyons finished ninth in 18:30, Colin Jenkins was 10th in 18:53, Brendan Betti placed 11th in 18:47, Greg Bormes finished 12th in 19:03, Mike DeCarli was 14th in 19:21, Austin Bolus placed 15th in 19:29 and Shea Quinn finished 19th in 19:38.

Lions win one match

Lackawanna Trail topped Mid Valley, 21-36, but lost to Scranton, 37-23, and West Scranton, 30-26, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Scott Township. Matt Kinback placed third in 17:58 to lead the Lions. Bobby Titus finished 10th in 19:01 and Jared Klepadlo was 17th in 19:45.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Classics win three matches

Scranton Prep defeated Dunmore, 17-44, Old Forge, 15-50, and Riverside, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Dunmore. Adiya Golden placed fourth in 20:10 to lead Prep. Mia Bellucci finished fifth in 20:10, Kate Reilly was seventh in 20:41, Katie Walsh placed ninth in 21:41, Lindsay Notarianni finished 10th in 22:05, Christine Kaffka was 13th in 22:40, Emma Walsh placed 15th in 23:45 and Eva Rine finished 20th in 23:57.

Lady Comets win two matches

Abington Heights downed Wallenpaupack, 19-44, and Delaware Valley, 18-45, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Clarks Summit. Katie Dammer placed first in 19:48 to lead the Lady Comets. Alex Scheuermann finished third in 20:23, Claire Traweek was sixth in 21:01, Carly Danoski placed seventh in 21:10, Meghan Beahan finished eighth in 21:32, Maddie Show was 10th in 22:09, Emma Marion placed 12th in 22:26, Annie Wesolowski finished 14th in 22:42 and Sarah Bath was 17th in 23:07.

Lady Lions place two in top 6

Lackawanna Trail failed to qualify for a team score, but Ashleigh Clarke placed second overall in 21:38 and Amanda Kinback finished sixth in 23:45 in a Lackawanna League meet also featuring Scranton, Mountain View, Mid Valley, West Scranton, Susquehanna and Lakeland in Scott Township on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Comets edge Lady Hornets

Abington Heights downed Honesdale, 1-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 21 in South Abington Township. Phoebe Sebring scored the game’s only goal. Olivia Mendo made five saves.

Lady Lions down Lady Trojans

Lackawanna Trail defeated Nanticoke, 5-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Factoryville. Courtney Dwyer scored two goals and Madison Lee, Lauren Baldwin and Elizabeth Rodenbach each scored one. Jordan Laytos tallied two assists and Lauren Beemer, Rodenbach, and Rachel Beemer each added one. Sarah Weisenfluh made five saves.

FOOTBALL

Cavs top Cougars

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 29-15, in a Lackawanna League game on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Scranton. Ricky Morgan rushed for touchdowns of 5 and 42 yards and Prep quarterback connected with David Horvath for a 36-yard touchdown and Kevin Holmes for a 39-yard score. Morgan run for a two-point conversion and Horvath caught a pass from Holmes on another two-point try.

BOYS SOCCER

Cavaliers shut out Knights

Scranton Prep downed Scranton, 4-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Friday, Oct. 23 in Scranton. Justin Hammert scored two goals and Alec Buttner and Brandon Richards each scored one for Prep. Blake Hammert and Cullen Myers each had an assist. Blake Hammert also made three saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Classics blank Lady Cougars

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Scranton. Angelina Falcone, Liz Shoemaker and Eileen Casey scored goals for Prep. Casey also added an assist. A.J. Hendershot, Mary Jo Dickinson and Abby Sekely each made one save.

Lady Comets rout Lady Knights

Abington Heights shut out Scranton, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Scranton. Ally Christman and Emma Henzes scored two goals and Paige Morgan, Tiana Yarns, Ashley Mulherin, Kelly Seechock and Emily Cacioppo each scored one. Emily Claus had two assists and Meghan Noone and Yarns each added one.

Classics claim Division 1 title

Scranton Prep defeated Abington Heights, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Scranton. Cara Griffith scored off an assist from Eileen Casey in the first half and Madison Ziobro added a goal of a Griffith assist in the second half. Johanna Show made 14 saves for Abington Heights and A.J. Hendershot stopped four shots for Prep.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lady Bucks blank Lady Comets

Dunmore downed Abington Heights, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in Dunmore. Emma Baker led the Lady Comets with five kills and Brooke Reiner added nine digs.

Lady Comets top Lady Foresters

Abington Heights defeated Forest City, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Clarks Summit. Cassie Toth led the Lady Comets with seven kills and Celia Davis added five digs.

Lady Lions fall to Lady Wildcats

Western Wayne topped Lackawanna Trail, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Oct. 22 in Lake Ariel. Carolyn Mack had 14 points and Allison Melnikoff added 10 digs to lead Trail.

Lady Comets sweep Lady Sabers

Abington Heights downed Susquehanna, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Friday, Oct. 23 in Clarks Summit. Grace Hambrose had seven kills and Marissa Lewis added 12 assists to lead the Lady Comets.
