BOYS BASKETBALL

Lions fall to Blue Devils

Old Forge defeated Lackawanna Trail, 42-26, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Friday, Jan. 22 in Old Forge. Steven Scioscia led Trail with 11 points and Jake Sanders added six for the Lions.

Cavs top Invaders

Paddy Casey scored a game-high 18 points to help Scranton Prep defeat West Scranton, 78-32, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game on Friday, Jan. 22 in Scranton. Logan Bailey added 11 for the Cavaliers.

Comets crush Warriors

Seth Maxwell scored a game-high 17 points to lead Abington Heights past Delaware Valley, 57-33, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Thursday, Jan. 21 in South Abington Township. Tim Toro added 12 for the Comets.

Foresters drop Lions

Forest City topped Lackawanna Trail, 58-49, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 game on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Forest City. Cody Stuenzi scored 14 points to lead the Lions and Travis Ankoff added 11 for Trail.

Cavs rout Buckhorns

Nick Dende scored 20 points to help Scranton Prep defeat Wallenpaupack, 107-57, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Scranton. Paddy Casey added 17 for the Cavaliers.

Knights knock off Comets

Scranton defeated Abington Heights, 41-35, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Scranton. Trey Koehler led the Comets with 14 points and Tim Toro added 12.

Comets win game at tourney

Tim Toro and Jackson Danzig each scored 18 points to lead Abington Heights over Lower Merion, 63-55, in a non-league game as part of the Scholastic Play-by-Play Classic on Monday, Jan. 18 in Harrisburg. Seth Maxwell added 16 for the Comets.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lady Comets top Lady Cougars

Hannah Kowalski scored a game-high 13 points to help Abington Heights defeat Valley View, 45-24, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 girls basketball game on Monday, Jan. 25 in Archbald. Nicole Getz added seven for the Lady Comets.

Lady Knights edge Classics

Scranton defeated Scranton Prep, 54-46, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game on Monday, Jan. 25 in Scranton. Jillian Paulus led the Classics with 20 points and Julia Sirotnak added 11.

Lady Comets down Lady Warriors

Nicole Getz and Alessia Brunori each scored 11 points to lead Abington Heights past Delaware Valley, 53-22, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Milford.

Classics outlast Lady Invaders

Julia Sirotnak scored 19 points to help Scranton Prep defeat West Scranton, 49-40, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 game on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Scranton. Holly Daveski added 10 for Prep.

Lady Devils hold off Lady Lions

Old Forge defeated Lackawanna Trail, 59-47, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Factoryville. Laurelann Penn led Trail with 13 points and Ally Decker scored 12 for the Lady Lions.

Classics fall to Lady Buckhorns

Wallenpaupack defeated Scranton Prep, 28-23, in a Lackawanna League crossover game on Monday, Jan. 18 in Hawley. Jillian Paulus scored 12 points to lead Prep and Tiffany Powell added six for the Classics.

Lady Foresters top Lady Lions

Despite a game-high 19 points from Lexie Kwiatkowski, Lackawanna Trail fell to Forest City, 50-43, in a Lackawanna League Division 4 game on Monday, Jan. 18 in Factoryville. Ally Decker added eight points for Trail.

Scranton Prep defeated West Scranton, 92-70, in a Lackawanna League meet on Monday, Jan. 25 in Scranton. Nico Lastauskas placed first in the 200 and 500 free, Joe Kyle Bushta finished first in the 200 individual medley and 100 breast, Thomas Pfaeffle was first in the 50 free and 100 back, Michael Durr placed first in the 100 fly and Conor McCall was first in the 100 free. The Cavs 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relay teams also placed first.

Brendan Conahan placed first in the 200 free and 100 fly, Sam Jubon finished first in the 200 individual medley, Chris Suh was first in the 100 free, Ben Vale placed first in the 500 free, Zachary Karabin finished first in the 100 back and Charlie Gromelski was first in the 100 breast. The Abington Heights 200 medley (Jubon, Gromelski, Suh, Shane Cummings), 200 free (Jack Wasko, Gromelski, Karabin, Conahan) and 400 free (Vale, Cummings, Brooks Houck, Jubon) teams also placed first in the meet.

Audrey Campo placed first in the 200 and 500 free, Victoria Wrobleski finished first in the 200 individual medley, Cat Donlon was first in the 50 free and 100 fly, Peyton McNulty placed first in the 100 free and 100 back, and Lauren Lanzendorfer finished first in the 100 breast. Prep’s 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relay teams also placed first.

Classics squeak by Lady Warriors

Scranton Prep defeated Elk Lake, 83-80, in a Lackawanna League meet on Thursday, Jan. 21 in Dimock. Abington Heights downed West Scranton, 145-33, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Scranton. April Sokalsky placed first in the 200 free, Laura Hartman finished first in the 200 individual medley, Sarah Bath was first in the 50 free, Natalie Kozar placed first in the diving competition, Margorie Myers finished first in the 100 fly, Aliza Selznick was first in the 100 free, Danielle Sanok placed first in the 500 free, Leah Byman finished first in the 100 back and Kyra Sladecki was first in the 100 breast. The Lady Comets 200 medley (Sokalsky, Byman, Sanok, Samantha Wilkerson) and 200 free (Bath, Karley Feather, Sanok, Byman) relay teams also placed first.

INDOOR TRACK

Abington area teams place in meet

Abington Heights’ Katie Dammer placed second and Carly Danoski finished third in the girls 800 meter race during a high school invitational on Friday, Jan. 22 at Summit University in South Abington Twp. Prep’s Kate Reilly finished fourth in the same event. Dammer placed second in the girls 400 meters and Faith Judson, of the Lady Comets, placed fifth. Prep’s Erin Feeney finished first in the girls 1600 meters while teammate Adiya Golden placed sixth. Emily Clauss, of Abington Heights, was fifth in the girls 55 meters. Lackawanna Trail’s Matthew Kinback placed first in the boys high jump. Abington Heights’ Kyle Burke finished fourth in the boys 800 meters. Prep’s Tristen Shoemaker was fourth in the boys 400 meters. Abington Heights’ Dan Uhranowsky placed fourth and Burke was fifth in the boys 1600 meters.

WRESTLING

Hornets sting Comets

Honesdale defeated Abington Heights, 34-34, on a tiebreaker by scoring the most first points in each bout in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in South Abington Twp. Juan Loboda (132) and Chris Langan (152) won by decision, Owen Hivner (160) and Anthony Kimble (220) won by pin, Nick Carr (170) and Noah Sirianni (113) won by forfeit, and Adam Wellard (182) won by major decision.

Cavs edge Lions

Scranton Prep defeated Lackawanna Trail, 45-36, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match on Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Factoryville. Alec Buttner (138 lbs.), John Redman (152), Ivan Balavage (182) and Thor Balavage (220) won by pin for Prep. Bruce Parola (170) won by decision and Will McGregor (285), Sammy Segers (106) and Connor Chernesky (113) won by forfeit for the Cavaliers. Justin Ganser (126), Tyler Baltrusaitis (132), Tom Kohinsky (145), DJ Klinges (160) and Trent Phillips (195) won by pin and Colin Mulhern won by forfeit for the Lions.
