Comets pick up three wins

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 21-34, Mid Valley, 15-48, and West Scranton, 18-41, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Scranton. Dan Uhranowski placed second 17:19, Kyle Burke finished third in 17:23, Adam Traweek was eighth in 18:48, Ryan Siebecker placed ninth in 18:51 and Ethan Mattox finished 10th in 18:56.

Cavs claim four wins

Scranton Prep defeated Carbondale Area, 15-50, Western Wayne, 15-50, Honesdale, 21-36, and Forest City, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Fell Twp. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed third in 17:46, Nick Gershey finished sixth in 18:26, Greg Bormes was seventh in 18:32, Kerry Lyons placed eighth in 18:35, Peter Burke finished 11th in 18:53, Shay Gunn was 14th in 19:44 and Michael Durr placed 15th in 19:52.

Lions earn win

Lackawanna Trail defeated Delaware Valley, 27-29, but fell to Wallenpaupack, 43-19, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Susquehanna. Matt Kinback placed second in 18:52 for the Lions.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Classics earn three wins

Scranton Prep defeated Carbondale Area, 15-50, Western Wayne, 25-36, Forest City, 15-50, but lost to Honesdale, 35-21, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Fell Township. Mia Bellucci placed 10th in 21:02, Adiya Golden finished 13th in 21:50 and Lillian Walsh was 15th in 22:05.

Lady Comets capture three wins

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 18-43, Mid Valley, 15-50, and West Scranton, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Scranton. Katie Dammer placed first in 18:49, Alex Scheuermann finished second in 20:21, Emma Marion was seventh in 22:20, Sarah Bath placed eighth in 22:26 and Annie Wesolowski finished 11th in 23:19.

Lady Lions winless at meet

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Delaware Valley, 44-18, and Wallenpaupack, 45-18, during a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Susquehanna. Ashleigh Clarke placed fourth in 23:33 for Trail.

Lady Lions down Lady Warriors

Lackawanna Trail held off Wyoming Area, 3-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Factoryville. Lauren Beemer, Samantha Baltrusaitis and Courtney Dwyer scored for the Lady Lions, and Sarah Weisenfluh made nine saves.

Lady Comets fall to Lady Warriors

Delaware Valley defeated Abington Heights, 6-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match on Monday, Sept. 19 in Clarks Summit. Caroline Kelly scored a goal for Abington Heights off a assist from Mamie Dempsey.

Sem tops Trail

Wyoming Seminary defeated Lackawanna Trail, 7-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match on Monday, Sept. 19 in Kingston. Sarah Weisenfluh made 17 saves for the Lady Lions.

FOOTBALL

Cavs pummel Mountaineers

Scranton Prep defeated Dallas, 48-0, in a non-league game on Saturday, Sept. 17 in Scranton. Prep quarterback Jake Ryan tossed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Sam Dickson and had touchdown runs of 2 and 75 yards to lead the Cavaliers. Ricky Morgan had touchdown runs of 1 and 45 yards, Matt Gilmartin had a 15-yard touchdown run and Cullen Chesnick scored on a 24-yard run. Alec Buttner converted six of seven extra point attempts.

Troy Kelleher, Luke Fayocavitz and Will Brown had individual wins to help Abington Heights defeat Wallenpaupack, 5 1/2 – 3 1/2, in a Lackawanna League meet on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Hawley. Connor Kelleher earned a split. The teams of T.Kelleher-Pat McGrail and Fayocavitz- Brown won in better-ball play.

Cavs top Spartans

Scranton Prep defeated Mid Valley, 7 1/2 – 1 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Scott Township. Jack Habeeb, Dan Hinton, Evan Murphy and John Redman had individual wins. Sebastian Cimoch earned a split. The teams of Marchese-Habeeb, Cimoch-Hinton and Murphy-Redman won in better-ball play.

Old Forge downed Lackawanna Trail, 5 1/2 – 3 1/2 in a Lackawanna League match on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Factoryville. Andy Faist and Richard Rodenbach picked up individual wins while Owen Hyde earned a split. The teams of Faist-Rodenbach won in better-ball play.

Sebastian Cimoch, Evan Murphy, Jack Habeeb, Dan Hinton and Colin Ennis won individuals matches for Prep while Josh Villarosa earned a split. The teams of Cimoch-Murphy, Habeeb-Hinton and Ennis-Villarosa won better-ball matches.

Dunmore defeated Lackawanna Trail, 8 1/2 – 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Sept. 19 in Mount Cobb. Andy Faist earned a split in an individual match for Trail.

Several Classics qualify for districts

Scranton Prep’s Lauren Golden shot a 79, Alex Fitzsimmons carded an 85, Reilly Ruane finished with an 89, Emily Goryeb shot a 96 and Gabby Hanstein carded a 99 during the District 2 qualifier on Wednesday, Sept. 14 in Mount Cobb to qualify for the District 2 Class 3A individual championship on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Fox Hill Country Club in Exeter.

Classics sweep Lady Chiefs

Scranton Prep topped Lakeland, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Greenfield Twp. Lauren Golden, Alex Fitzsimmons, Reilly Ruane, Emily Goryeb, Gabby Hanstein and Lily Mackarey had individual wins. Antonio Maletta and Jonathan Rickwood scored goals to lead Abington Heights over Valley View, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match on Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Archbald. Colin McIntyre and Pat Beatty had assists for the Comets, and Jackson Danzig made 10 saves.

Corbin White scored three goals, Cullen Myers scored two, and Angelo Terrana, Alec Buttner and Henry Rusak each scored one. Myers and Mario Rotell had two assists while Biagio D’Apolonio, Thomas Pfaeffle and Kevin Haas each had one for the Cavs. Garry Wrobleski made four saves.

Cullen Myers and Corbin White each scored two goals to help Scranton Prep defeat Elk Lake, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Scranton. Edison Lopes added a goal for Prep. Kyle Zaboski and Alec Buttner had two assists and Myers had one. Garry Wrobleski made one save.

Comets clip Knights

Abington Heights downed Scranton, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match on Thursday, Sept. 15 in Clarks Summit. Jimmy Lefchak and Pat Beatty scored goals for the Comets. Luke Abdalla had an assist and Jackson Danzig made seven saves.

Scranton Prep defeated Honesdale, 2-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Sept. 19 in Honesdale. Elisa Penetar and Kate McGrath had goals for the Classics. Catherine Collins and Angelina Falcone had assists, and AJ Hendershot made 13 saves.

Lady Comets rout Lady Invaders

Kelly Seechock, Hannah Gilbert and Allyson Derry each scored two goals to lead Abington Heights over West Scranton, 9-1, in a Lackawanna League match on Monday, Sept. 19 in Clarks Summit. Hannah Kowalski, Meghan Noone and Emily Cacioppo also scored for the Lady Comets. Gilbert, Emily Clauss, Paige Morgan and Lauren Simakaski each had an assist for Abington Heights.

Lady Comets outlast Lady Meteors

Emma Baker had 13 kills to help Abington Heights defeat Montrose, 3-2 in a Lackawanna League match on Wednesday. Sept. 14 in Montrose. Brooke Reiner had 22 digs and Jasmine McDuffie served six aces for Abington Heights.

Lady Wildcats down Lady Comets

Western Wayne defeated Abington Heights, 3-2, in a Lackawanna League match on Friday, Sept. 16 in Clarks Summit. Emma Baker had six blocks and Emily Crowley contributed 23 assists for the Lady Comets.

Lady Raiders sweep Lady Lions
