BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Lions get win at meet

Lackawanna Trail defeated Blue Ridge, 15-50, but was defeated by Elk Lake, 38-20, and Montrose, 16-42, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Montrose. Matt Kinback placed sixth in 17:35 and Bobby Titus finished 14th in 18:41 for the Lions.

Comets pick up win, earn tie

Abington Heights defeated Holy Cross, 19-42, and was tied Scranton Prep, 28-28, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Covington Township. Kyle Burke placed second in 16:48, Dan Uhranowski finished fourth in 16:57, Adam Traweek was eighth in 18:19 and Ethan Mattox placed 14th in 18:34.

Cavs gets win, tie

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 15-49, and tied Abington Heights, 28-28, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Covington Township. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed fifth in 17:23, AJ Sluko finished seventh in 18:13, Nick Gershey was ninth in 18:20, Kerry Lyons finished 12th in 18:34 and Greg Bormes placed 13th in 18:34.

Comets finish 32nd

Abington Heights placed 32nd out of 44 teams at the PIAA Foundation Boys Gold Race on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Hershey. Kyle Burke placed 71st in 17:31, Dan Uhranowski finished 94th in 17:46, Ryan Siebecker was 197th in 18:49, Ethan Mattox placed 216th in 19:04, Nathan Kizer finished 257th in 19:46, Adam Traweek was 272nd in 20:13 and Thomas Kerrigan placed 273rd in 20:16.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Lions claim one win

Lackawanna Trail defeated Blue Ridge, 15-50, but fell to Elk Lake, 46-15, and Montrose, 33-25, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Montrose. Ashleigh Clarke placed ninth in 22:21 and Tori James finished 1oth in 22:35 for Trail.

Lady Comets winless in meet

Abington Heights was defeated by Scranton Prep, 44-25, and Holy Cross, 34-23, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Covington Township. Katie Dammer placed second in 18:35 and Alex Scheuermann finished third in 19:45.

Classics earn three wins

Scranton Prep defeated North Pocono, 25-36, Valley View, 20-39, and Abington Heights, 25-44, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Covington Twp. Mia Bellucci placed ninth in 20:56, Anna Brier finished 11th in 21:18, Allison Walsh was 13th in 21:37 and Adiya Golden placed 14th in 21:39.

Lady Comets place 26th

Abington Heights finished 26th out of 45 teams at the PIAA Foundation Girls Gold Race on Saturday. Sept. 24 in Hershey. Katie Dammer placed fourth in 18:44, Alex Scheuermann finished 75th in 20:57, Sarah Bath was 212th in 22:56, Emma Marion placed 219th in 23:00, Blanca Calvo finished 221st in 23:01, Annie Wesolowski was 22nd in 23:03 and Alison Kane placed 285th in 24:55.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Lions edge Lady Spartans

Courtney Dwyer scored a goal off an assist from Madison Lee to lead Lackawanna Trail over Wyoming Valley West, 1-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Clinton Township. Sarah Weisenfluh made 12 saves for Trail.

Lady Cougars shut out Lady Comets

Hazleton Area defeated Abington Heights, 5-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Hazleton. Ashlynn Fitzgerald made 17 saves for Abington Heights.

Lady Lions outlast Lady Crusaders

Courtney Dwyer scored two goals to help Lackawanna Trail defeat Coughlin, 3-2, in overtime in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Monday, Sept. 26 in Clinton Township. Lauren Beemer added a goal for Trail and Elizabeth Rodenbach and Lauren Baldwin had assists. Sarah Weisenfluh made 10 saves.

FOOTBALL

Cavs edge Warriors

Scranton Prep defeated Wyoming Area, 14-7, in a non-conference game Friday, Sept. 23 in Exeter. Prep quarterback Jake Ryan had two touchdowns and Mario Giannone had one. Kyle Polishan had an interception for the Cavaliers.

Chiefs top Lions

Lakeland tops Lackawanna Trail, 27-7, in a Lackawanna League Division 3 game Friday, Sept. 23 in Scott Township. James Gillespie scored the lone touchdown for the Lions.

BOYS GOLF

Chargers down Lions

Carbondale Area defeated Lackawanna Trail, 7-2, in a Lackawanna League match Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Forest City. Andy Faist had an individual win and the team of Faist-Richard Rodenbach won in better-ball play for Trail.

Comets qualify four

Four Abington Heights golfers qualified for the District 2 Class 3A individual championships during a qualifier Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Moscow. Troy Kelleher carded a 75 to tie for third place, Will Brown shot a 77 to finish seventh, Luke Fayocavitz had a 78 to finish tied for eighth and Connor Kelleher carded an 83 to place 14th.

Cavaliers qualify six

Evan Murphy carded a 77 to place second, Jack Habbeb and Tyler Marchese shot an 80 to tie for third, Frank Adamo had an 82 to tie for sixth, Sebastian Cimoch placed eighth with an 83, and John Redman tied for 19th with a 90.

Lions fall to Red Raiders

Blue Ridge defeated Lackawanna Trail, 7 1/2 – 1 1/2, in a Lackawanna League match Friday, Sept. 23 in Nicholson. Jacob Wescott had an individual win and the team of Andy Faist-Wescott earned a split in better-ball play.

Comets blank Invaders

Abington Heights defeated West Scranton, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 22 in Clarks Summit. Luke Fayocavitz, Kyle Porpiglia, Dan Munley, Pat McGrail, Will Brown and Daniel Flickinger won individual matches and the teams of Fayocavitz-Porpiglia, Munley-McGrail and Brown-Flickinger won in better-ball play.

Lions fall to Wildcats

Western Wayne defeated Lackawanna Trail, 7-2, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 22 in Waymart. Andy Faist won an individual match for the Lions and Tom Vokes earned a split. The team of Faist-Jacob Wescott also earned a split in better-ball play.

Crusaders top Lions

Holy Cross defeated Lackawanna Trail, 8-1, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Nicholson. Andy Faist earned a split in an individual match and the team of Faist-John Maier earned a split in better-ball play.

Comets crush Hornets

Troy Kelleher, Connor Kelleher, Pat McGrail, Will Brown and Luke Fayocavitz had individual wins to help Abington Heights defeat Honesdale, 8-1, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Honesdale. The teams of T. Kelleher-Nick Sebastianelli, C. Kelleher-McGrail and Brown-Fayocavitz picked up better-ball wins.

GIRLS GOLF

Classics claim tourney title

Scranton Prep won the Scott Greens Classics with a team score of 149 Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Scott Township. Prep’s Reilly Ruane claimed the individual title by shooting a 35. Lauren Golden followed with a 36, Alex Fitzsimmons carded a 37 and Gabby Hanstrin shot a 41.

Classics finished second

Scranton Prep placed second out out 12 teams at the Spring-Ford Invitational Saturday, Sept. 24 in Linfield. Reilly Ruane shot an 84, Alex Fitzsimmons carded an 85, Lauren Golden had an 89 and Gabby Hanstein shot a 97.

Comets top Warriors

Abington Heights defeated Delaware Valley, 5-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Clarks Summit. Dan Muller, Jonathan Rickwood, Jimmy Lefchak, Anthony Freda and Roman Chastain scored goals for the Comets. Evan Florey had two assists and Luke Abdalla and Lefchak each had one. Jackson Danzig made nine saves for Abington Heights.

Cavs rout Bucks

Corbin White and Cullen Myers each scored three goals to help Scranton Prep defeat Dunmore, 11-0, in a Lackawanna League match Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Scranton. Sam Bednarz, Kenny Kincel, Mario Rotell and Edison Lopes also had goals for Prep. White had two assists and Kyle Zaboski, Myers, Alec Buttner, Kincel, Angelo Terrana and Keny Melgar each had one. Garry Wrobleski made three saves.

Comets tie Trojans

Abington Heights tied North Pocono, 1-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Thursday, Sept. 22 in Clarks Summit. Anthony Freda scored the Comets goal off a pass from Liam Neary. Jackson Danzig made seven saves for Abington Heights.

Cavs blank Meteors

Corbin White scored a goal off an assist from Kyle Zaboski to lead Scranton Prep over Montrose, 1-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Thursday, Sept. 21 in Scranton. Garry Wrobleski made five saves for Prep.

Scranton Prep defeated Holy Cross, 5-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Saturday, Sept. 24 in Dickson City. Cullen Myers scored two goals and Edison Lopes, Alec Buttner and Angelo Terrana each scored one. Lopes added an assist and Garry Wrobleski made five saves.

Jonathan Rickwood and Thomas Stone each scored two goals to help Abington Heights defeat West Scranton, 6-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Saturday, Sept. 24 in Clarks Summit. Thomas Stone, Evan Florey and Colin McIntyre each added a goal. Jack Abdalla had two assists and Zach Smith, Kyle Kostiak and Chris Suh each had one. Jackson Danzig made one save for the Comets.

Cavaliers blank Eagles

Scranton Prep defeated Mountain View, 1-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Monday, Sept. 26 in Kingsley. Angelo Terrana scored the Prep goal and Garry Wrobleski made five saves.

Lady Comets crush Lady Cougars

Abington Heights defeated Valley View, 6-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Archbald. Emily Clauss scored two goals and Hannah Kowalski, Paige Morgan, Allyson Derry and Ashley Mulherin each scored one for the Lady Comets. Mulherin, Derry and Kelly Seechock each had an assist, and Trish Caucci made two saves for Abington Heights.

Kerry McGrath scored two goals and Angelina Falcone added another to lead Scranton Prep past Delaware Valley, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Scranton. Falcone added an assist and AJ Hendershot made 10 saves for Prep.

Lady Buckhorns shut out Classics

Wallenpaupack defeated Scranton Prep, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Monday, Sept. 26 in Scranton. AJ Hendershot made 14 saves for Prep.

Lady Comets rout Lady Knights

Morghan Stiles scored two goals to help Abington Heights defeat Scranton, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Scranton. Paige Morgan, Lauren Simakaski, Emily Cacioppo, Hannah Kowalski, Kelly Seechock, Emily Clauss and Tori Wells also scored a goal for the Lady Comets. Carina Salerno and Anna Marchetta each had an assist, and Trish Caucci made one save.

GIRLS TENNIS

Lady Comets too much for Lady Spartans

Abington Heights defeated Mid Valley, 4-1, in a Lackawanna League match Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Throop. Lauren Carroll, Catherine Pusateri and Clare DellaValle won singles matches and the team of Lauren Koczwara-Savannah Blaum won in doubles play for Abington Heights.

Lady Comets blank Lady Vikings

Lauren Carroll, Catherine Pusateri and Clare DellaValle had singles wins to lead Abington Heights over Riverside, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Scranton. Abington Heights’ doubles teams of Lauren Koczwara-Savannah Blaum and Macy Marturano-Brooke Dennison also won matches.

Classics top Cougars

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 4-1, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Archbald. Gabriela Jakubek and Tatiana Klacko won singles matches and the teams of Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio and Julia Horchos-Isabel Hou won in doubles play.

Western Wayne defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Clinton Township. Carolyn Mack had seven kills and Allison Melnikoff added 17 digs for Trail.

Lady Warriors beat Lady Lions

Elk Lake defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Friday, Sept. 23 in Dimock. Allison Melnikoff had 17 digs, Carolyn Mack had 10 assists and Madisyn People had nine kills for Trail.

Lady Raiders top Lady Comets

Blue Ridge defeated Abington Heights, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Clarks Summit. Paris Koehler had 10 digs and Jasmine McDuffie added eight assists for Abington Heights.

Lady Eagles edge Lady Lions

Mountain View defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-2, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Clinton Township. Madisyn Peoples had 16 kills and Carolyn Mark had 18 assists for the Lady Lions.
