BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Comets earn six wins

Abington Heights defeated Western Wayne, 19-42, Honesdale, 18-37, Forest City, 15-50, Carbondale Area, 15-50, North Pocono, 26-29, and Valley View, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in South Canaan Township. Kyle Burke placed second in 17:02, Dan Uhranowski finished fourth in 17:19, Ethan Mattox was seventh in 18:13, Ryan Siebecker placed ninth in 18:20 and Nathan Kizer finished 11th in 18:39.

Cavs pick up four wins

Scranton Prep defeated Holy Cross, 20-43, Scranton, 16-74, West Scranton, 20-41, and Mid Valley, 15-48, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Scranton. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed second in 17:49, A.J. Sluko finished fourth in 18:28, Nick Gershey was fifth in 18:32, Kerry Lyons placed sixth in 18:41, Tarquin McGurrin finished ninth in 19:07, Michael Durr was 11th in 19:26 and Shay Quinn placed 12th in 19:32.

Lions earn five wins

Lackawanna Trail defeated Riverside, 17-42, Mountain View, 19-36, Dunmore, 19-38, Susquehanna, 21-34, and Old Forge, 15-50, but fell to Lakeland, 21-34, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Kingsley. Matt Kinback placed first in 18:34, Bobby Titus finished fourth in 19:01 and Jared Klepadlo was 10th in 20:26.

Cavs finish 13th

Scranton Prep finished 13th out of 46 schools in the boys white race of the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Bethlehem. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed 32nd in 16:54, Nick Gershey finished 68th in 17:28 and Kerry Lyons was 80th in 17:37.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets earn five wins

Abington Heights defeated Western Wayne, 24-33, Forest City, 15-50, Carbondale Area, 15-50, North Pocono, 18-44, and Valley View, 20-36, but lost to Honesdale, 30-25, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in South Canaan Twp. Katie Dammer placed first in 18:37, Alex Scheuermann finished third in 19:44 and Emma Marion was 14th in 21:52.

Classics pick up three wins

Scranton Prep defeated Scranton, 19-43, West Scranton, 15-48 and Mid Valley, 15-50, and lost to Holy Cross, 34-21, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Scranton. Mia Bellucci placed fourth in 20:59, Allison Walsh finished seventh in 22:01, Anna Brier was eighth in 22:08, Adiya Golden placed ninth in 22:17 and Kate Welby finished 10th in 22:26.

Lady Lions earn five wins

Lackawanna Trail defeated Susquehanna, 26-29, Old Forge, 20-35, Dunmore, 27-28, Mountain View, 15-50, and Lakeland, 15-50, but fell to Riverside, 31-24, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Kingsley. Ashleigh Clarke placed first in 22:58 and Tori James finished second in 23:07.

Classics notch top-3 finish

Scranton Prep placed third out of 38 teams in the girls white of the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Bethlehem. Mia Bellucci placed 19th in 19:57, Adiya Golden finished 26th in 20:13, Abby Brown was 42nd in 20:36, Kate Welby placed 57th in 20:51, Allison Walsh finished 73rd in 21:09 and Lucy Doherty was 78th in 21:13.

FIELD HOCKEY

Lady Royals edge Lady Lions

Holy Redeemer defeated Lackawanna Trail, 2-1, in a Wyoming Valley Conference match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Wilkes-Barre. Lauren Beemer scored off an assist from Rachael Beemer for Lackawanna Trail. Sarah Weisenfluh made six saves for Trail.

Lady Comets shut out by Lady Knights

Lake-Lehman defeated Abington Heights, 7-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in South Abington Township. Ashlynn Fitzgerald made 15 saves for the Lady Comets.

Lady Warriors top Lady Lions

Delaware Valley defeated Lackawanna Trail, 2-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Monday, Oct. 3 in Milford.

FOOTBALL

Lions blank Chargers

Anthony Berrios scored two touchdowns to help Lackawanna Trail defeat Carbondale, 37-0, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 3 game Friday, Sept. 30 in Clinton Township. Thomas Huffsmith and James Gillespie added rushing touchdowns, Matt Bergey caught a touchdown pass for Nathan Rolka, and Rolka added a field goal.

Cavs hold off Cougars

Scranton Prep defeated Valley View, 12-8, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division 2 game Friday, Sept. 30 in Blakely. Ricky Morgan and Jake Ryan each rushed for a touchdown for Scranton Prep.

BOYS GOLF

Cavs clip Comets

Scranton Prep defeated Abington Heights, 5-4, in a Lackawanna League golf match Tuesday, Sept. 27 in Mount Cobb. Sebastian Cimoch, Frank Adamo and John Redman won individual matches for Prep. Troy Kelleher, Connor Kelleher and Nick Sebastianelli won individual matches for Abington Heights. Prep’s team of Evan Murphy-Redman earned a better-ball win. The other better-ball matches between Cimoch-Jack Habeeb and Luke Fayocavitz-T. Kelleher, and Tyler Marchese-Adamo and C. Kelleher-Will Brown were split.

Cavs blank Blue Devils

Sebastian Cimoch, Tyler Marchese, Jack Habeeb, John Redman, Frank Adamo and Evan Murphy had individual wins to lead Scranton Prep over Old Forge, 9-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 quarterfinal match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Mount Cobb. The Cavaliers better-ball teams of Cimoch-Marchese, Habeeb-Redman and Adamo-Murphy also earned wins.

Comets top Trojans

Abington Heights defeated North Pocono, 7-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 semifinal match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Clarks Summit. Troy Kelleher, Pat McGrail, Connor Kelleher, Nick Sebastianelli and Luke Fayocavitz earned individual wins. The teams of T. Kelleher-McGrail and C. Kelleher-Sebastianelli had better-ball wins.

Cavs eliminate Chargers

Scranton Prep topped Carbondale Area, 8 1/2 – 1/2, in the semifinals of the Lackawanna League Division 2 playoffs Monday, Oct. 3 in Mount Cobb. Tyler Marchese, Frank Adamo, Sebastian Cimoch, Evan Murphy and Jack Habeeb had individual wins for the Comets and John Redman earned a split. The teams of Marchese-Adamo, Redman-Cimoch and Murphy-Habeeb also earned better-ball wins.

GIRLS GOLF

Classics claim championship

Lauren Golden shot a 76 to help lead Scranton Prep to the District 2 Class 3A title Monday, Oct. 3 in Mount Cobb. Reilly Ruane finished with a 91, Alex Fitzsimmons had a 92 and Gabby Hanstein carded a 94 for the Classics.

Comets blank Buckhorns

Abington Heights shut out Wallenpaupack, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Thursday, Sept. 29 in Clarks Summit. Antonio Maletta and Jonathan Rickwood scored for the Comets. Pat Beatty had two assists and Jackson Danzig made eight saves.

Cavs rout Wildcats

Alec Buttner scored four goals to lead Scranton Prep past Western Wayne, 10-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Thursday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. Cullen Myers, Kyle Zaboski, Edison Lopes and Dan Kuzdro each scored a goal for Prep. Myers had two assists and Biagio D’Apollonio, Mario Rotell, Lopes, Angelo Terrana and Thomas Pfaeffle each had one. Garry Wrobleski made two saves.

Comets shut out Cougars

Jonathan Rickwood scored two goals to help Abington Heights defeat Valley View, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Monday, Oct. 3 in Clarks Summit. Colin McIntyre, Pat Beatty and Jimmy Lefchak each added a goal for the Comets. Beatty had two assists and Anthony Freda, Lefchak and Dan Muller each had one. Jackson Danzig made five saves.

Cavaliers too much for Chiefs

Scranton Prep defeated Lakeland, 5-2, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Monday, Oct. 3 in Scranton. Alec Buttner contributed three goals and an assist for the Cavs. Kyle Zaboski and Cullen Myers each added a goal. Myers added three assists and Garry Wrobleski made two saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lady Comets edge Lady Warriors

Hannah Kowalski scored a goal to give Abington Heights a 1-0 win over Delaware Valley in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Milford. Trish Caucci made one save for the Lady Comets.

Classics blank Lady Invaders

Scranton Prep defeated West Scranton, 4-0, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Scranton. Kerry McGrath, Angelina Falcone, Catie Collins and Julianna Penetar each scored a goal for Prep. Falcone added two assists, and Collins and McGrath each had one. AJ Hendershot made one save.

GIRLS TENNIS

Classics sweep Lady Bucks

Gabriela Jakubek, Tatiana Klacko and Gabrielle Serratore had singles wins to lead Scranton Prep over Dunmore, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match Monday, Sept. 26 in Scranton. The teams of Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio and Isabel Hou-Julia Horchos earned doubles wins.

Lady Comets top Lady Wildcats

Abington Heights defeated Western Wayne, 4-1, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 29 in South Canaan Township. Lauren Carroll, Catherine Pusateri and Clare DellaValle had singles wins, and the team of Lauren Koczwara-Savannah Blaum won in doubles play.

Classics blank Lady Hornets

Gabriela Jakubek, Tatiana Klacko and Gabrielle Serratore had singles wins to lead Scranton Prep past Honesdale, 5-0, in a Lackawanna League match Thursday, Sept. 29 in Scranton. The doubles teams of Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio and Rachel Maculloch-Julia Horchos also earned wins for Prep.

Classics down Lady Vikings

Lady Comets blank Lady Warriors

Olivia Baker had 17 kills to help Abington Heights defeat Elk Lake, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Clarks Summit. Adele Hollander added eight points for the Lady Comets.

Lady Lions top Lady Sabers

Carolyn Mack had 18 points, Allison Melnikoff had 23 digs and Madisyn Peoples contributed 12 kills to help Lackawanna Trail defeat Susquehanna, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Friday, Sept. 30 in Susquehanna.

Lady Comets outlast Lady Bucks

Abington Heights defeated Dunmore, 3-2, in a Lackawanna League match Saturday, Oct. 1 in Clarks Summit. Brooke Reiner had 28 digs, April Sokalsky added 12 kills and Jasmine McDuffie contributed 10 points for Abington Heights.
