Comets earn win

Abington Heights defeated Blue Ridge, 19-42, but fell to Montrose, 36-25, and Elk Lake, 29-26, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Clarks Summit. Dan Uhranowski placed second in 17:03 and Kyle Burke finished third in 17:06.

Cavs pick up four wins

Scranton Prep defeated Lakeland, 17-41, Lackawanna Trail, 20-41, Susquehanna, 15-50, and Mountain View, 17-45, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Jermyn. Tommy Fitzpatrick placed second in 17:51, Nick Gershey finished fourth in 18:15, AJ Sluko was fifth in 18:30, Tarquin McGurrin placed seventh in 18:36, Michael Durr finished 11th in 19:15 and Shea Quinn was 12th in 19:17.

Lions earn win

Lackawanna Trail defeated Holy Cross, 25-30, but lost to Scranton Prep, 20-41, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Jermyn. Matt Kinback placed third in 18:02 and Bobby Titus finished ninth in 18:42.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Lady Comets pick up two wins

Abington Heights defeated Montrose, 22-39, and Blue Ridge, 15-50, but fell to Elk Lake. 34-21, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Clarks Summit. Katie Dammer placed first in 19:21, Alex Scheuermann finished seventh in 21:17, Sarah Bath was 11th in 21:55 and Emma Marion placed 14th om 22:20.

Classics earn four wins

Scranton Prep defeated Lakeland, 15-50, Lackawanna Trail, 19-42, Susquehanna, 16-39, and Mountain View, 15-50, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Jermyn. Mia Bellucci placed fourth in 20:39, Abby Bowen finished fifth in 21:28, Kate Welby was sixth in 21:34 and Adiya Golden placed 11th in 22:37.

Lady Lions winless at meet

Lackawanna Trail was defeated by Scranton Prep, 42-19, and Holy Cross, 38-16, in a Lackawanna League cluster meet Oct. 4 in Jermyn. Tori James placed seventh in 21:55 and Ashleigh Clarke finished ninth in 22:27.

Lady Buckhorns shut out Lady Comets

Wallenpaupack downed Abington Heights in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Oct. 5 in Hawley. Ashlynn Fitzgerald made 14 saves for the Lady Comets.

Lady Lions play to draw

Lackawanna Trail tied Hazleton Area, 2-2, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Oct. 5 in Clinton Township. Lauren Baldwin and Courtney Dwyer each scored a goal for Trail. Samantha Baltrusaitis added an assist and Sarah Weisenfluh made 12 saves.

Lady Tigers edge Lady Comets

Tunkhannock defeated Abington Heights, 3-2, in overtime, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Oct. 7 in South Abington Township. Maura Jenkins and Phoebe Sebring scored goals for Abington Heights. Jenkins added an assist.

Lady Comets fall to Lady Warriors

Wyoming Area defeated Abington Heights, 8-0, in a Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 match Oct. 10 in South Abington Township. McKenna Thorpe made 13 saves for the Lady Comets.

FOOTBALL

Cavs crush Hornets

Scranton Prep defeated Honesdale, 56-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 game Oct. 8 in Scranton. Jake Ryan accounted for two rushing and two passing touchdowns. Jake Grady and Cree Coccodrilli each caught a touchdown pass. Braden Burrier, Ricky Morgan, Matt Gilmartin and Jimmy Tierney each rushed for a touchdown. Alec Buttner converted eight extra points.

BOYS GOLF

Buckhorns clip Comets

Wallenpaupack defeated Abington Heights, 5-4, to claim the Lackawanna League Class 3A championship Oct. 5 in Thornhurst Township. Troy Kelleher and Luke Fayocavitz had wins and Will Brown earned a split for the Comets in individual play. Fayocavitz-Brown picked up a better-ball win while Pat McGrail-Kelleher earned a split.

Cavs rout Vikings

Tyler Marchese, Frank Adamo, John Redman, Sebastian Cimoch, Jack Habeeb and Evan Murphy had individual wins to lead Scranton Prep past Riverside, 9-0, in the Lackawanna League Class 2A championship match Oct. 5 in Thornhurst Township. The teams of Marchese-Adamo, Redman-Cimoch and Habeeb-Murphy also earned wins.

Cavaliers claim team title

Scranton Prep defeated Wyoming Seminary, 301-319, to win the District 2 Class 2A team championship Oct. 7 in Moscow. Frank Adamo shot a 73, Jack Habeeb and Tyler Marchese each shot 75, Sebastian Cimoch carded a 78 and Evan Murphy shot 89.

Cavaliers edge Warriors

Billy Weiss and Cullen Myers scored goals to lead Scranton Prep over Elk Lake, 2-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Oct. 5 in Dimock. Myers added an assist and Garry Wrobleski made five saves for Prep.

Comets blank Knights

Abington Heights defeated Scranton, 2-0, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Oct. 5 in Scranton. Pat Beatty scored both goals, Antonio Maletta added an assist and Jackson Danzig made four saves for the Comets.

Comets top Warriors

Jonathan Rickwood, Jimmy Lefchak, Pat Beatty and Evan Florey each scored to lead Abington Heights past Delaware Valley, 4-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 1 match Oct. 10 in Milford. Jackson Danzig made three saves for the Comets.

Cavs shut out Bucks

Scranton Prep defeated Dunmore, 8-0, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 10 in Dunmore. Kyle Zaboski scored two goals and Cullen Myers, Alec Buttner, Mario Rotell, Edison Lopes and Kenny Nelgar each scored one. Sam Bednarz, Zaboski, Myers and and Lopes each had an assist. Garry Wrobleski made two saves.

Anna Marchetta, Seechock and Morghan Stiles each had an assist, and Trish Caucci made three saves.

Classics clip Lady Cougars

Angelina Falcone and Kerry McGrath each scored a goal to lead Scranton Prep over Valley View, 2-1, in a Lackawanna League Division 2 match Oct. 6 in Scranton. AJ Hendershot made 14 saves for Prep.

GIRLS TENNIS

Classics top Lady Buckhorns

Scranton Prep defeated Wallenpaupack, 3-2, to claim the Lackawanna League championship Oct. 5 in Moscow. Tatiana Klacko and Gabrielle Serratore earned singles wins for Prep and the doubles team of Julia Horchos-Isabel Hou won in doubles play.

Classics outlast Lady Spartans

Tatiana Klacko and Gabrielle Serratore won singles matches to help Scranton Prep defeat Mid Valley, 3-2, in the quarterfinals of the District 2 Class 2A tournament. Prep’s doubles team of Gaba Horchos-Amelia Desiderio also posted a win.

Lady Comets eliminate Lady Patriots

Abington Heights defeated Pittston Area, 5-0, in quarterfinals of the District 2-4 Class 3A championship Oct. 7 in Clarks Summit. Lauren Carroll, Catherine Pusateri and Clare Della Valle had singles wins for Abington Heights. The teams of Savannah Blaum-Lauren Koczwara and Macy Marturano-Julia Poulson-Houser won in doubles play.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Lady Comets blank Lady Meteors

Emily Crowley had 19 assists, Olivia Baker contributed 11 points and Jasmine McDuffie added six kills during Abington Heights’ 3-0 win over Montrose in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 5 in Clarks Summit.

Lady Lions fall to Lady Foresters

Forest City defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 5 in Clinton Township. Carolyn Mack had 13 assists, Madisyn Peoples added 11 kills and Lydia Dunckle contributed 10 digs for Trail.

Lady Comets down Lady Wildcats

Emily Crowley had 33 assists, Jasmine McDuffie added 14 service points and Alessia Brunori delivered 12 kills to help Abington Heights defeat Western Wayne, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 6 in South Canaan Township.

Lady Meteors too much for Lady Lions

Montrose defeated Lackawanna Trail, 3-1, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 6 in Montrose. Allison Melnikoff had 15 digs, Madisyn Peoples added eight kills and Lydia Dunckle had seven service points.

Alessia Brunori had six aces and Emily Crowley added 18 assists to lead Abington Heights over Mountain View, 3-0, in a Lackawanna League match Oct. 10 in Clarks Summit.
