Allied Terrace Personal Care Facility, a division of Allied Services Integrated Health System, recently held a reception to honor graduates of the Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Residents Program.

This 10 year-old program was founded by a group of residents in Cambria county who were interested in training to improve their self-advocacy skills. Today, PEERs complete a series of five training sessions where they learn to effectively advocate on behalf of themselves and fellow residents in long term care settings. Volunteer Ombudsmen train new PEERs, help with PEER meetings and meet with PEERs regularly to address issues in the facilities they visit.
