A former federal judge in Scranton has been reported missing, according to U.S. Marshals.

Edwin M. Kosik, 91, was last seen at his home in Covington Township, Lackawanna County, around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Edward Holst, public information officer for the U.S. Marshals.

Kosik served as a U.S. District Judge. He stepped down from the bench in February due to health reasons.

U.S. Marshals sent out an alert, describing Kosik as 5 feet 8 inches tall with gray hair, blue eyes and wearing glasses. He was last seen wearing a blue winter coat.

His car, a 2015 gray Acura RDX, registration JNC-1450, is also missing and has damage on the driver’s side, which Holst said is unrelated. Authorities believe Kosik is at risk for harm or injury.

U.S. Marshal Martin Pane has scheduled a press conference at 11 a.m. Thursday outside the federal courthouse in Scranton.

According to Times Leader records, Kosik was nominated to the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1986 by then-President Ronald Reagan. He was best known for being the “no-nonsense” judge during the “Kids for Cash” scandal involving former Luzerne County judges Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. and Michael T. Conahan.

Anyone with information on Kosik’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact the U.S. Marshals at 570-346-7277, ext. 0.
